L-R: Christopher Chiles, Cabell
County (WV) Prosecuting Attorney and Chairman of the Board of NDAA passes the
gavel to incoming President Jim Reams, Rockingham County (NH) Attorney
Brentwood - County Attorney Jim Reams announced today that the
National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) - the organization that
represents America's
state and local prosecutors - announced the election of Sacramento County
District Attorney Jan Scully as president-elect of the organization on July 11, 2010.
NDAA has about 7000 paid members and represents the interests of more than
30,000 prosecutors across America.
Scully was elected at NDAA's annual conference held
this year in Napa, California. Scully will assume the
presidency in July 2011.
New Hampshire
prosecutor Jim Reams of Rockingham County, N.H. was handed the gavel as the new
president for the 2010-11 term of office.
Reams, who has served as Rockingham County Attorney for 12 years and has
served on the NDAA's Board of Directors since 2002 explained that NDAA "is
the voice of the men and women who handle about 95% of the criminal
prosecutions in the nation, ranging from shoplifting to murder cases."
Reams went on to explain that NDAA continues to be in the forefront of
innovative ways of helping prevent crime and find new ways to respond to
particularly difficult issues that affect communities ranging from drug courts
to witness intimidation. Reams served
first as a state delegate, then Vice President, and then Treasurer of NDAA.
Scully has been the elected District Attorney in 1994 after serving more than
15 years in that office as a Deputy D.A. In 2005 Scully was elected President
of the California District Attorneys Association at which time she started
serving on NDAA's Board of Directors where she was
serving as Vice President. The NDAA does not automatically advance officers to
the presidency and Scully will be the first female president of NDAA since it
was founded in 1950.
NDAA's headquarters is in Alexandria
Virginia and the organization operates as
education division at the National Advocacy Center
on the grounds of the University of South Carolina Law
School in Columbia, South Carolina.
