2007 was another record setting year for the County Attorney's
Office. The Office reviewed, prepared and presented 2467 Indictments to
the Rockingham County Grand Jury. This is the seventh time in eight years that
the office has recorded increases in the number of Indictments filed.
Each Indictment requires about 5 hours of time to review police reports and
witness statements, to prepare Indictments, to subpoena witnesses to testify
and the actual presentation to the Grand Jury.
Since 1999, the Office has filed almost 19,000 Indictments.
Grand Jury time has increased from 2 days a month to about 3.5 days a month.
