Sex Offender Conviction Upheld

Brentwood-Rockingham County Attorney Jim Reams announced today that the NH Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of Harold J. Baird in an Order dated April 2, 2007 (see attached Order below).  Harold J. Baird (DOB-1/17/36) of 279 Long Pond Rd, Danville, was sentenced to a total of 40 to 80 years in the NH State Prison after a jury found him guilty of three counts of Aggravated Felonious Sexual Assault (AFSA) against his 5 year old step-daughter.  The assaults all occurred in Danville at 279 Long Pond Rd between March 24, 2004 and December 11, 2004.  The defendant met the mother of the victim on the Internet, visited her and the daughter in China and eventually married.

Baird had previous convictions in the 1970’s and 1990’s in Rockingham County Superior Court.

“This case is a demonstration of how the coordination among law enforcement can produce results in difficult cases,” Reams said.  “The mother of the victim could not speak English well when she had to reach out for help to protect her daughter from this predator.  The treatment that this case received from the Danville Police, the Child Advocacy Center and Assistant County Attorney Jerome Blanchard is a credit to law enforcement.”  continued Reams.  “The children of this County are safer because Harold Baird will spend the rest of his life in prison.”  Reams added.
